Bruce Hunnicutt Takes on Africa’s Black Death: A Cape Buffalo Adventure...

Bruce Hunnicutt has done it again! After patiently waiting for three years, Bruce finally had the opportunity to put the crosshairs of his Ravin Crossbow on one of the most formidable animals in the wild—the Cape Buffalo. Often referred to as “Africa’s Black Death,” these massive creatures are known for their intimidating presence and the steely glare that seems to say, “You owe me a lot of money!”

This wasn’t just any Cape Buffalo; it was a big old Dugga Boy bull, the type of trophy that hunters dream of. Bruce, along with his trusted PH (Professional Hunter) and the expertise of Rob Birch, managed to get within an incredible 23 yards of this massive animal. For a hunter, that’s close enough to feel the tension in the air and the raw power of the beast standing before you.

With precision and patience, Bruce released the bolt from his Ravin Crossbow. The arrow passed clean through the Cape Buffalo, a testament to both the power of the bow and Bruce’s skill as a marksman. The bull ran less than 30 yards before piling up—a swift and ethical end to an unforgettable hunt.

A Trophy Hunt of a Lifetime

For Bruce, this hunt was more than just a pursuit of a trophy; it was the culmination of years of planning, patience, and preparation. The Cape Buffalo, often regarded as one of Africa’s most dangerous game animals, represents the ultimate challenge for any hunter. Taking one with a crossbow elevates the achievement to an entirely new level.

Thanks to the Team

Bruce extended his gratitude to Rob Birch and his PH, whose guidance and expertise made this dream hunt a reality. The experience, the camaraderie, and the thrill of facing down one of Africa’s most iconic animals have solidified this as the greatest trophy hunt of Bruce’s life.

The Legend of the Cape Buffalo

Cape Buffalo are revered for their toughness and unpredictable nature, earning them a place among the "Big Five" of African game. Known for their stubborn resilience and potential for danger, they are not an animal to be taken lightly. For Bruce to take one with a crossbow is not only a remarkable feat but a story that will be retold around campfires for years to come.

Congratulations to Bruce on this incredible achievement and for sharing his adventure with the hunting community. For those inspired by his story, let it serve as a reminder that patience, preparation, and respect for the hunt always pay off.
